Spirit DSP brings HD conferencing to tablets

by Tom Dunlap

November 21 2011

Tablets can be a great way to stay connected with home or office, and many video conference solutions for tablets have emerged from established players like Skype, Google and Fuze Telepresence.

Now Spirit DSP has joined the chat line. One of the leading voice and voice over IP (VoIP) providers, Spirit DSP today announced availability of TeamSpirit Voice and Video Engine Tablet for iOS and Android tablets.

TeamSpirit Tablet is a robust, high-definition communications client-side voice and video engine, specifically created for tablets with 7 to 12 inch screens, touch-screen user interfaces and all available types of Internet connection support.

The company also gets many groups into the act. The software development kit (SDK) allows service providers, application developers and device manufacturers to launch voice and video calling services for the tablet-using masses.  And if you’re worried about draining your battery when chatting, Spirit DSP has you covered. The company’s in-depth platform optimization capability is designed to save tablet battery life.

"Tablet computers are going to make a ground-breaking advancement in both the consumer and professional mobile videoconferencing business,” said Spirit’s Product Marketing Director Alexander Samarin.

"Tablets are quickly becoming the communication device of choice in the world, and we're proud to say that our new TeamSpirit Tablet SDK is uniquely designed to support all popular tablet devices, conferencing scenarios and multipoint video layouts."

The TeamSpirit Tablet solution includes:

-- Spirit’s patent-free, robust HD voice codec IP-MR, specially optimized for voice transmission over all-IP networks.

-- Cutting-edge speech enhancement module with the company’s proprietary AEC algorithms delivering the highest signal quality.

-- Multi-layer packet loss recovery module for audio and video streaming.
-- A special module for network stream adaptation to network impairments, such as congestions, latency, varying delay (jitter), bandwidth limitations, etc.

Spirit DSP is tapping into a huge market. Worldwide spending on telepresence and video conferencing equipment has been growing by more than 30 percent annually, according to market researcher Infonetics Research, which expects the market to reach $5.4 billion annually by 2015.
