Infographic: The shocking (lack of) security measures employed by tablet users

TabTimes unearths an interesting infographic, from mobile security firm Confident Technologies, which indicates an alarming disregard for security on mobile devices.

The infographic shows that 50% of smartphones and tablet users do not password-protect their device, despite the fact that 50% of these users have banking, financial or stock trading applications on their phone or tablet.

A further worry in this regard is that two-thirds of respondents are always signed in to set applications, with only 33% making a point of logging in every time they use an application.

Approximately 44% choose not to lock their device because having a password is “too cumbersome”, while a carefree 30% “are not worried about the risk”, and so do not lock their device.

Confident Technologies found that lax security is generally down to frustration with typing usernames and passwords on the soft keyboards of smartphones and tablets. More than 30% said that they often “forget or mistype on the small keyboards”, while nearly 60% wished there was an easier form of authentication for mobile apps.

The infographic, which is below, also shows that 65% use their personal device to access work email and connect to the company network.
