Mobile ad network Chitika has collected results from its ad-serving network for device and browser usage, which reveals that the new iPad generated 6.6% of all Apple tablet traffic over the weekend.
Although the first and second generation iPads still accounted 93.4% of all Apple tablet traffic, Chitika says that adoption of the new iPad has grown steadily over the past few days, rising from 5% last Saturday to as high as 9.9% for an hour on Tuesday of last week.
Chitika points out that these figures are estimates, based on the figures Apple has made public, and stresses that the measurements do not directly correspond with the installed user base of a device.
Just last week, Apple said that it had sold three million new iPads over the first weekend. This figure in itself represents 5.4% of the 55.3 million iPads Apple sold until the end of last year.
