Chrome grabs 1.5% of the iOS browser market, but Safari still dominates

Just three weeks after Google released its Chrome for iOS app, and research firm Chitika Insights has revealed that the browser has had a good start, capturing a reasonable 1.5% of the iOS browser market.

Despite Chrome's solid start, Apple's Safari unsurprisingly continues to dominate the space, accounting for 85.6% of the market, with just 14.5% opting for another third-party browser.

Chrome has featured at the top of the best free iPad apps on Apple’s App Store for a number of weeks now, but while its release for the iPhone and iPad has been celebrated, these figures suggest that Google still has a long way to go before it catches Safari as the preferred method for browsing on an iPad.

Chitika says that the prime usage hours of the Chrome iOS browser are between 7 AM and 10 AM (presumably PST), where it peaks at around a 2% share, before sliding back later in the day.
