Panasonic expects to be the leading rugged tablet maker by 2015

Japanese electronics giant Panasonic is in the rugged tablet market for the long haul with the firm now hoping to capture 50% of all worldwide sales in just two years’ time.

Speaking at a recent local press briefing to numerous news outlets, including Times of India, Panasonic spelled out its hopes for the future.

"We expect to capture 50% of the global market in ruggedized tablets by 2015 fiscal on the back increased focus on sectors like logistics, retail and manufacturing," said Hide Harada, the firm's head of IT products.

Panasonic is currently said to occupy around 22% of the global rugged tablet market but that could change shortly, especially with Harada forecasting that the firm will sell one million Toughbook tablets by fiscal 2014.
