Lenovo, the world’s largest PC maker, has revealed that it is now selling more tablets and smartphones than PCs.

Announcing the figures as part of its first quarter financial results on Thursday, the China-based vendor detailed how smartphone and tablet sales doubled year-on-year in the three months to June 30, with tablet sales on their own growing three-fold.

The New York Times reports that Lenovo’s smartphone sales doubled to 11.4 million with tablet sales reaching 1.5 million. The latter would tally with recent figures from analysts.

IDC believes that Lenovo is now the fourth-largest maker of smartphones worldwide and claimed earlier this week that the firm is now ahead of Microsoft and Amazon as one of the top five tablet vendors.

“Lenovo's combined sales of smartphones and tablets surpassed PCs for the first time ever during the quarter, demonstrating the momentum of these two businesses," the company said in a statement.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Lenovo’s PC business however with laptop sales accounting for 52% of first quarter revenues.
