New research shows a big increase in the number of people using mobile devices to try and buy a new car.

Jumptap said that the number of what it calls "auto intenders" on its network has nearly doubled over the last five months to 25 million.

The Jumptap study found that consumption of automotive content on a PC is higher in the early morning (7 to 9 a.m.), while consumption on tablets spikes significantly in the early evening (5 to 8 p.m.).

The study also found that people in the market for trucks are more likely to use an Android device, while those considering SUVs are more likely to use an iPhone or iPad.

Jumptap's analysis of mobile use is based on a network it says reaches across over 218 million mobile users in the U.S.
