Retailers, both online and offline, went into overdrive in terms of special promo deals on tablets this past Friday, the so-called Black Friday holiday shopping day of discounts that traditionally takes place the Friday day after Thanksgiving.
Tablets were a hot-seller, especially the iPad, over the first weekend of holiday shopping, according to a report by the Consumer Electronics Association. Retailers had 300 tablet promotion deals over the weekend. That’s a substantial jump from last year when there were less than 200 tablet promos over the Black Friday weekend.
Meanwhile, Global Equities Research observed sales activity at nine Apple stores and five Target stores on Black Friday, and found that 90% of iPad buyers also bought Apple-branded Smart Covers.
Not everyone left the stores happy though. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster noted that the second-generation iPad Mini with Retina Display was in short supply over the weekend.
