SwiftKey improves touchscreen typing with new upgrades

November 18 2011

SwiftKey has announced the launch of version 2.2 of SwiftKey X and SwiftKey Tablet, which promise to offer improved touchscreen typing.

The update adds a faster, artificially intelligent language engine, a new multi-touch framework for faster typing and a ‘polished’ UI for a better settings menu, alternative character selection and extra sharing features.

The upgrade had added new languages, including Arabic and Hebrew, taking the total of supported languages up to 35, while SwiftKey has also added support for mobile devices running Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).

For improving multi-touch control, SwiftKey is now able to make sense of multiple, successive key-presses, while the Dvorak and Colemak keyboard layouts have been added to aid typists who prefer this particular style.

SwiftKey's‘Fluency’ engine has been improved to speed up text corrections and predictions and the user interface has been improved too, with SwiftKey adding the ability to adjust the keyboard height, in portrait or landscape, an improved implementation of character selection for users who long-press, as well as a clear settings menu.

Further adding to this, the new versions will see the introduction of an enhanced typing heatmap, which shows users their typing accuracy with each key, thereby improving text predictions.

Sources recently revealed that SwiftKey Tablet X will come pre-loaded on the Motorola Xoom 2.
