WalMart to start selling new iPads at midnight
The mega store chain has confirmed in an email that it will start selling the 16GB WiFi-only model tonight at 12:01 local time at all of its 24-hour stores.
The sale includes both the black and white versions, as well as the now $399 iPad 2, if the hefty price iPad tag scares you and you don't need the 3.1 million pixels that the Retina display serves up. .
Walmart says it has only a "limited supply" of the tablets.
If you can't make it to a Walmart, the new iPad will be available in the U.S. and nine other countries beginning at 8 a.m. local time.
The new iPad comes with a faster processor and a much sharper screen. It also boasts an improved camera.
For many customers, visiting a store in person — instead of having one shipped — offers consumers a chance to mingle with die-hard Apple fans.
Apple quickly ran out of supplies it set aside for advance orders, and at last check, was telling customers Thursday to expect a two- to three-week wait for orders placed through its online store.
