The wait is over, HP launches Slate 7 Android tablet

by David Needle

April 26 2013

HP’s foray into consumer Android tablets is now official with availability of the previously announced Slate 7 tablet.

The Slate 7, at $169.99, shapes up as a worthy competitor to other 7-inch tablets like Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7. HP previewed the Slate 7 in February at the Mobile World Congress.

A long supporter and partner of Microsoft, HP continues to offer a range of Windows 8 tablets. But after the high profile failure of its Touchpad WebOS tablet, HP has decided to pursue the consumer market via Android.

Probably the Slate 7’s most unique feature is its built-in printing capabilities that allow you to print from any application via Wi-Fi or even plug the tablet directly into a printer via a USB cable.

Powered by a Cortex ARM A9 dual-core processor and 1024 by 600 wide view angle display, the Slate 7 runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and includes 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of eMMC storage, a Micro USB port for file transfer as well as a Micro SD for external storage up to 32GB.

HP is also touting the inclusion of Beats Audio with stereo speakers and says the tablet will run up to 5 hours of video with no battery recharge. The Slate 7 is available directly from HP.
