Google's new Nexus 7 won all three of SquareTrade's tests.

Gadget insurance company SquareTrade tested the new Nexus 7 versus the iPad mini and the original Nexus 7 for breakability and water resistance and found a clear winner.

The new Nexus 7 won all three tests performed by SquareTrade.

In the first one, a five foot corner drop onto what appeared to be a concrete floor, the original Nexus 7 and the iPad mini both ended up with cracked screens while the new Nexus 7 sustained only some minor scratches on the corner where it first impacted the floor.

SquareTrade, which showed the tests in a YouTube video, also compared who likely the three tablets to slide when pushed across a table. The iPad mini went several feet to slide completely off the table and crash to the ground. “Could be risky if you don’t have carpet," said the SquareTrade tester in the video.

The two Nexus 7 tablets just slid about a foot or a few inches more when pushed, with the newer Nexus 7 going a few inches further than the original model.

In the last test the three tablets were submerged in water for about 15 seconds while a video played. The new Nexus 7 continued to play the video with full audio when it was retrieved from the water and continued to operate.

The iPad mini lost audio as did the original Nexus 7 which then reset itself. It wasn't clear from the video if the audio ever came back.
