Avaya has announced that it is bringing its HD video-conferencing app, Scopia Mobile, to Android smartphones and tablets for the first time.

When used by Avaya subscribers, the Scopia Mobile app (free, Google Play) allows users to participate in two-way video calls, even when in a virtual meeting with up to 28 participants, and can connect to a wide range of telepresence and HD videoconferencing systems.

Using the application, workers can view and collaborate on presentations, spreadsheets, documents and images, bring up previously shared items without having to interrupt the presenter and share private messages.

For presenters, there is an array of tools, from starting or stopping recording of a meeting from their Android device to inviting more participants, muting audio and stopping cameras to locking or closing a meeting.

Attendees do not necessarily have to have downloaded the Android app or iPad app, which launched last year, with these folk also able to connect via an email link, through a mobile calendar or telephone number.

TabTimes got the chance to review the Scopia Mobile iPad app late last year, prior to Avaya’s approximate $230 million acquisition of Radvision in March.

At the time, representatives from the firm said that it was “looking to extend to Android and Windows 8” while also expressing interest of partnering with hardware manufacturers to pre-load their videoconferencing applications onto new mobile devices.

However, although the Scopia Mobile apps for Android and iOS are free, this only allows users to participate in a video conference call. Those looking for more features will need to purchase a Scopia Mobile or Scopia Desktop Pro account.
