The Guardian reports that its iPad app has been downloaded 500,000 times since it was launched in October.
The publication said that the app experienced 23,000 downloads on Christmas day alone, and went onto reveal that it will start offering the Guardian's Weekend magazine supplement for free with the app for the first time from tomorrow (Saturday 7th January).
The Guardian iPad app is a highly-rated application which displays the top UK and international news, as well as sections for comment, editorials, reviews and sport.
The app was launched on 13th October, initially for free under a sponsorship deal with Channel 4. However, that sponsorship is due to come to a close on 13th January, after which time the app will be available for £9.99 ($15.40) a month.
Users who download the app after this date will receive a week’s free trial, and will then be directed to sign up for a monthly subscription.
