DirecTV iPad update now allows users to stream TV and movies from anywhere

With the latest release of its free iPad app, DirecTV allows existing subscribers to watch archived TV shows, videos, and movies.

Previously, DirecTV only allowed subscribers access to live and archived content while they were on their home network.

With the newest update of the company's app, which went live today via iTunes, DirecTV now permits users to watch selected content from content providers from any wireless connection.

The app still does not realize users' dreams of enabling live streaming of TV/movie content when not at home, but it does appear one step closer.

The app also permits users to resume and continue watching content they've interrupted or paused on the iPad. And a new social module enables subscribers to see what shows and movies their friends and other subscribers are watching.

With DISH I've had the ability to watch all my live TV shows and DVR recordings on my iPad and DISH Remote Access app for 2 years now... so I'm a little confused why DirecTV is still behind here. Why so little content available to view outside the home? Personally, I can use the DISH Remote Access app and Sling Adapter on my iPad during the daily commute to my office at DISH and it is a life saver. I don't have to worry about missing my shows anymore! Why should anyone else?
