In what is said to be the first interactive business school alumni magazine designed as an iPad app, UCLA Anderson School of Management today launched the free Assets Digital.

The app features a number of digital features that can’t be done in a  traditional print publication and in some cases push beyond what other digital publications offer.

Assets Digital includes real-time Twitter feeds and an up-to-the-minute calendar of events; original video, photography and animated illustration; and an Alumni Hub screen that includes video, web links and access to social networks for alumni to connect to.

The app is also designed to give users control of the viewing experience, letting users navigate and interact with the stories, view photo galleries, listen to interviews or watch videos connected to individual stories.

“The new Assets allows our global alumni network of approximately 37,000 the opportunity to connect with Anderson in a dynamic way so that every issue becomes a networking event beyond the magazine itself,” said Glenn Lyday (’03), UCLA Anderson Alumni Board of Directors President.

The app was developed by the creators of the Fast Company iPad app, the new digital magazine uses Adobe Digital Publishing Suite which offers an integrated set of InDesign CS5 tools with additional Adobe Publishing Technologies.

The release comes just a week after the announcement that News Corp is killing its high profile magazine app The Daily. But there were a number of unique issues related to that app’s failure, including News Corp’s decision to make a huge investment in original content and staff.
