Three companies collaborate for tablet-optimized POS solution

Aruba Networks is working with Infinite Peripherals and LightSpeed for a tablet and smartphone optimized POS solution that is designed to save retailers time and boost sales.

The new solution allows retail staff to carry out sales transactions in any part of a store and combines Infinite Peripherals’ Linea-Pro barcode scanner/credit card swipe reader, with LightSpeed Mobile, a mobile POS solution. This solution is backed by smartphone and tablet-optimized WiFi network support from Aruba, using the firm’s Mobile Virtual Enterprise (MOVE) architecture.

LightSpeed’s POS system can connect to a LightSpeed database and process sales anywhere in the store with an iPod touch or iPad, while the software even extends to allow retailers to go further afield, selling at trade shows or special events.

The Magnetic Stripe Reader and Linear-pro is used to process the orders, and the solution as a whole comprises a 3-tracks magnetic stripe reader, a rechargeable battery extender and a protective case. Infinite Peripherals says that 1D or 2D barcode scanners are optional extras.

The launch of this new solution coincided with some new research from Aruba Networks, which suggested that 56% of retailers are planning to upgrade their WiFi support in 2012, to support new and novel applications like mobile POS. Approximately 56% of respondents (130 retail IT leaders) said that they planned to deploy iPads, while 38% said that they would roll-out iPhones to staff, according to the report.
