A game in which players tickle and tug and virtual ninja had an incredibly successful first week.

NaturalMotion's Clumsy Ninja, an iOS exclusive, was downloaded 10 million times in one week after launching on Nov. 21.

Since then users have racked up a collective total of 1,000 years of gameplay time, and Clumsy Ninja is currently at #56 in the App Store's list of top-grossing apps.

The free title lets users interact with a virtual ninja who reacts to their touches and actions with realistic animations. It's like a Tickle-Me-Elmo, but with a virtual ninja and microtransactions.

Nevertheless, the physics and A.I. technology behind the game took ten years for the British studio to develop. It was designed to appeal to "everyone," NaturalMotion CEO Torsten Reil told GamesBeat around the time of its launch.

The studio has more games in the works, and it will be fascinating to see how it uses this technology next.
