Emirates to deploy 1,000 HP Windows 8 tablets to improve in-flight customer service
HP’s latest Windows 8 Pro tablet was chosen for being easier on battery life over long-haul flights, and each slate will be equipped with Emirates’ Knowledge Driven Inflight Service (KIS) app.
The app, first introduced for basic in-flight communication and customer service in 2004, will allow cabin crew to upgrade passengers to business or first class, get customer feedback and also view customer details from previous trips, such as food or seating preference.
Emirates aims to save paperwork by deploying these models and has even suggested that the tablets could store complete procedural manuals in future.
As the ElitePad 900 doesn’t become commercially available until January 2013, Emirates will roll the first 100 tablets out that month before aiming to deploy the full 1,000 by the end of the year.
