Last June, the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that Apple had violated a Samsung-owned patent relating to data transmission over cellular networks. As a consequence, it banned some older products from Apple that worked with the AT&T network – including the iPad 2.

“I have decided to disapprove the USITC’s determination to issue an exclusion order and cease and desist order in this investigation,” a letter from the U.S. Government said.

It is the first time since 1987 that an administration has vetoed an International Trade Commission ban.
