Panasonic’s TV panel factory will make more tablet displays

October 26, 2011

The report comes from the Nikki business daily, which claims that Panasonic will gradually increase production of tablet-size displays to half the output at the facility, and will also shift its focus to making 50” and above displays, which offer higher profit margins.

Domestic demand for TVs in Japan has dropped down since the government removed its subsidies for energy-efficient home appliances. The resulting falling TV shipments has seen the price of large LCD panels continue to fall.

Panasonic merged its small and medium-size panel business with Toshiba in 2002 but sold its entire stake of the group to its Japanese rival in 2009.
