The research firm says that global tablet shipments grew an impressive 67% to hit 25 million in the quarter, with the iPad once again leading the way.
Apple reportedly shipped 17 million iPads over the three-month period, with Strategy Analytics indicating that this was the tablet’s highest market penetration since Q3 of 2010.
In contrast, Android tablets continued to struggle to gain a foothold in the market. Android tablet shipments grew to 7.3 million shipments in Q2 of 2012, but only managed to maintain its 29% market share from the year before.
Microsoft took a measly 1% of the tablet market in Q2, although Strategy Analytics does expect the Redmond company’s fortunes to change on the launch of Windows 8.
What was perhaps more striking about the study however, was the complete omission of RIM, which presumably made up part of the remaining 0.3% of the tablet market.
