Best New Android Tablet Apps: A slick keyboard, better notifications, and faster browsing

Fleksy is a well-designed and highly accurate keyboard.
Fleksy is a well-designed and highly accurate keyboard.

In this latest edition of Best New Android Apps we cover the Fleksy Keyboard, the Pushover push notification app, and a handy utility app called Link Bubble Pro.

Fleksy Keyboard

One of the strengths of Android is the diversity of keyboard choices. Fleksy is new on the scene, and it offers much to like. Like the popular SwiftKey it aggressively autocorrects to enable you to type faster. It is so confident it offers an “invisible mode” where the keyboard disappears from the screen and you just keep touch typing on where the keys would be.

Along with a great interface it offers several gestures that make typing and word-selection faster, such as swiping down to cycle through autocorrect choices or swiping to the right in lieu of hitting the space bar.

Pushover

Despite the name, Pushover actually wants to give you more control. It is a very easy-to-use push notification service that allows several apps, web services and scripts to send alerts to your device. For example, you can program it to send you push notifications for specific email accounts or also connect it to the popular IFTTT (if this then that) service.

A recent update adds some polish to the app, along with a better slide-out menu so you can quickly look through the different services you have connected.

Link Bubble Pro

When opening a link from an Android app it can get cumbersome to constantly get kicked out to Chrome and then need to navigate back.

Link Bubble Pro fixes this by loading a web page in the background when you click on a link. It then animates on-screen when the page is ready, so you are able to keep using the original app without waiting for the page to load. It can greatly speed up the reading experience when using social apps that are filled with links to web content.
