Looks like Amazon will launch two new powerful Kindle Fire HD tablets this fall

July 30, 2013

Citing “multiple trusted sources", tech site BGR reports that the next 7-inch Kindle Fire HD will sport a new design including a 1920 x 1200 resolution display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 system-on-chip (apparently clocked at 2GHz), 2GB of RAM and a front-facing camera.

The tablet will also offer options for Wi-Fi only and cellular as well as storage of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB. The source says that internal tests show the slate running Android 4.2.2 with Amazon’s “heavy customizations”.

However, while this model promises to be a competitor for the new Nexus 7 and perhaps Apple’s iPad mini, Amazon’s larger Kindle Fire HD looks to be a different beast altogether.

For while the tablet is believed to have many of the same internal specs as its smaller brother, the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD apparently boasts a stunning 2560 x 1600 resolution display and 8MP rear-facing camera.

Both tablets are reportedly set to launch this fall, which falls in line with earlier reports from the same source.
