Citing sources in the supply chain, Chinese-language IT website MyDrivers reports that Apple OEM partner AU Optronics is currently testing the second iPad mini with a 2048 x 1536 resolution display, giving it a greater pixel density than the 9.7-inch iPad (324 vs 264 pixels per inch).

The source adds that the next iPad mini will also have dual-core A5X processor, although this view conflicts with earlier reports which suggested the tablet will turn up with a dual-core A6X processor.

The A5X processor features in the third-generation iPad but was superseded when Apple launched the fourth-generation model with the A6X processor last October.

Topeka Capital analyst Brian White and Piper Jaffray’s renowned Gene Munster have previously said that Apple would launch the iPad mini with Retina Display in March, with Jaffray even adding that Apple could release the fifth-generation iPad in the very same month.
