Samsung exec confirms 8-inch Galaxy Note will launch next month

January 23, 2013

Samsung Mobile Communications president J.K. Shin announced the news in an interview with a Korean news website, less than a week after the first rumors surfaced on the device, and a purported image of the device has since appeared on various tech blogs.

The 8-inch Galaxy Note is expected to have an 8-inch 1280 x 800 resolution display, a quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The tablet, a supposed rival for Apple’s iPad mini, will also reportedly run Android 4.2 (the second version of Jelly Bean), have two cameras (1.3MP on the back, 5MP on the front) and come with Samsung’s S-Pen stylus.

The purported image of the device comes from online fansite SamMobile, which has been the source of many Samsung tablet rumors of late, with the website claiming to have received the image from an anonymous tipster.

Price details on the rumored tablet as currently not known, although presumably Samsung will be aiming to introduce the model around the iPad mini’s entry price of $329.
