The Facebook photo is the latest indication Samsung has an announcement in the works. Last Tuesday Samsung posted a YouTube video titled “Something Smart is Coming" that shows a silver laptop. That video includes the caption “…our newest Windows 8-ready innovation”
The Korean device maker is expected to introduce the new hybrid laptop at the IFA show in Germany later this week. The mention of it being “Windows 8-ready” could mean it will be available sooner than the formal unveiling of Windows 8 on October 26, presumably preloaded with Windows 7.
Samsung didn't name the device on its Facebook page, but several reports have already speculated it’s the Samsung Series 5 Hybrid notebook the company announced back in June at the Computex show.
At the time Samsung did say the Series 5 Hybrid would include an 11.6-inch touchscreen display, Intel processor and a front- and rear-facing camera.
That means the Hybrid is a “true” Windows device in the sense it can run full Windows and related apps, unlike the Windows RT devices based on an ARM processor. The Windows RT tablets won’t run Windows apps but will include a version of Microsoft Office.
