“People familiar with the matter” told the Wall Street Journal that the partnership will see Samsung become the “official provider” of NBA technology. As such, officials will get LCD monitors to review calls during a game while teams will apparently be presented with tablets to look at plays.
In return, the NBA will supposedly deliver custom content for Samsung’s collections of tablets and internet-connected Smart TVs.
The National Basketball Association– which has previously enjoyed partnerships with both Hewlett Packard and Chinese appliance maker Haier – is no stranger to tablets.
As long ago as 2011, 10 NBA teams (including Washington Wizards, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets) were already using iPads, while the Phoenix Suns has more recently rolled out Samsung’s Galaxy Tab to replace the paper-bound playbook.
