Scoop.it sure hopes so. The company today released the first iPad app version of its social curation platform with an eye toward turning content consumers into content creators.
“It’s a publishing by curation platform. You can enrich content with your own insight,” Scoop.it co-founder and CEO, Guillaume Decugis, said in a demo interview with TabTimes.
Scoop.it for iPad lets you find articles, videos, visuals and other content on niche or so-called “long tail” topics in two ways; either the established community of “passionate curators” or the system’s “dynamic topic suggestion engine”.

Powered by big-data semantic technnology
The suggestion engine is kind of Scoop.it’s secret sauce. The proprietary search engine is powered by big-data semantic technology that the company says crawls and qualifies more than 10 million web pages daily.
Scoop.it also features a community of curators who have already indexed and shared over 50 million pieces of content on topics of interests.
Decugis says Scoop.it has had “fantastic growth” since launching on the web in 2011. Currently, the web service attracts over 20 million page views a month and over 7 million unique visitors.
He said the addition of the iPad app came after many user’s (mostly SMBs, independent professionals and some larger companies) requested it.
“More and more they’re using the iPad as part of their content experience,” says Decugis.
“Also, we think there’s a huge opportunity there that iPad developers haven’t uncovered yet. You look at the iPad when it launched and it’s still today basically used for content consumption. No one has been really focused on creating media and we think the next opportunities for apps are in creation.”
Scoop.it for iPad is available for free and hosted by Scoop.it which brands the content. The $79 per month paid version is a white label offering (i.e. the user or company can brand the content) you can publish on your own website and also access free analytics.
