The 2.5-inch drive is 5mm thick, weighs 3.3 ounces and has 500GB on-board, which is enough to hold up to 100,000 photos and 125,000 songs.

As Seagate explains in a press release, the drive comes with a “mobile enablement kit” and caching software in order to deliver up to seven times the storage of a traditional 64GB tablet, all while using the same power and offering the same reliability of a common flash drive.

The drive is also ruggedized to withstand some shock and vibration, and has different power modes to reduce energy consumption when in sleep, standby or idle.

The Seagate Ultra Mobile HDD is available separately or as part of the Seagate Mobile Enablement Kit.
