Skype for Android gets a makeover with greater focus on speed

July 1, 2013

Announcing the news and that it now has 100 million users on Android phones in a blog post today, Skype revealed that version 4.0 of the app is designed to be “faster and easier” and detailed specifically how you can make just one tap to reply to recent conversations or swipe over a contact to start a new one.

Skype says that the app (free, Google Play) has been “rebuilt from the ground up to be faster and more reliable”, with particular emphasis going on stability, performance and load time.

But the firm, which Microsoft acquired for $8.5 billion in October 2011, says that this is “just the beginning” and expects to follow up with more updates in the months ahead.
