MWC moved to new digs in 2013

The 26th Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain was bigger, brasher and tackled everything from new Android tablets to mobile device management (MDM) solutions and operating systems. Here is the TabTimes scrapbook from the event.

  • 1 Mobile World Congress moves to a new venue

    The 26th Mobile World Congress was the first to be held at the Fira Gran Via, a much larger venue to accommodate all exhibitors, visitors and speakers. The conference was previously held at the Fira Montjuic center, which is also in Barcelona.

     
  • 2 Android is everywhere and yet Google is nowhere

    Google's participation at the show may have been restricted to a few private meetings and the mysterious arrival of Google Glass, but Android still got lots of attention. Vendors showed a number of new Android devices, including tablets from Lenovo , Acer and HP.

     
  • 3 Lenovo to launch Android tablets at "aggressive" prices

    Lenovo showed off three new Android tablets -- A3000, S6000 and A1000 -- at the technology conference. The firm chose not to announce prices at the show, only saying that all three models would debut in June at "very aggressive" prices. Amazon, you have been warned.

    HP caused a minor surprise as Mobile World Congress started, announcing the $169 Slate 7 tablet to compete with Amazon's Kindle Fire and Apple's iPad mini. TabTimes got a quick demo with the product.

     
  • 6 MWC 2013 turns out to be a good show for AirWatch

    AirWatch had a strong showing at MWC. Not only did the firm have a considerable presence on the show floor, it also ran its own conference (AirWatch Connect) at the show, with speakers including esteemed analysts from IDC and Gartner. To cap that off, the firm also announced a new $200 million round of A funding.

     
  • 7 IDT Systems want to personalize iPad cases for business

    British firm IDT Systems was demonstrating its Case System at Mobile World Congress. Put simply, it allows you to personalize cases for iPhone or iPad at reasonable prices. The company told TabTimes that it is spending a lot of time talking to corporate clients.

     
  • 8 The press office: A hive of activity

    Mobile World Congress isn't just hard work for vendors, but for journalists and photographers too. The numerous press rooms were nearly always packed.

    Software companies like SAP don't often have cool hardware demos, but at MWC the enterprise software giant showed off the McLaren Formula One race car.

     
  • 10 Bigger venue pays off for organizers

    The decision by organizers to move across town to a bigger venue clearly paid dividends. The place was still crowded.
