Some people in Virginia are voting on Microsoft’s Surface tablet

November 6, 2012

GeekWire reports that Washington-based Democracy Live, a provider of electronic balloting technology, has installed the Surface in one voting precinct in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The tablet has been fitted with the ‘LiveBallot’ app so users can mark and print out their ballot papers.

The company is using Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud platform to collect the ballot information and plans to roll out more tablets to other locations if this trial proves to be successful. That said, the firm added that any future deployments will be of the Surface tablets running Windows 8 Pro (the version supporting Intel chips).
