Citing “Europe-based sources”, Fudzilla reports that the graphic chip maker plans to launch an own-brand, high-end tablet in early 2014, with the website adding that the design will sport Nvidia’s next-generation Tegra 5 system-on-chip (SoC).

This news follows earlier reports that the chip maker, which provides GPUs for most Android tablets, could launch its own affordable 7-inch tablet.

German-language tech site Tabtech recently unearthed specs for a tablet from some GFXBench testing results, and concluded that the listing was for a 7-inch Nvidia tablet with a 1280 x 800 resolution display and a 1.8GHz Tegra 4 chip. The device was reportedly running Android 4.2.2.

If this news was to turn out to be true, it would represent one of the biggest news entries into the tablet market since Microsoft debuted with the Surface family. Nvidia does at least have some hardware system experience, having launched the Project Shield gaming handheld PC back at the start of 2013.
