The market for tablet processors is huge, growing 30% year-over-year according to the latest figures by Strategy Analytics.

Among the top five, Apple dominated in Q3 with a 40% revenue share of the tablet application processor market followed by Qualcomm with a 13% revenue share and Intel at 8%.

Strategy Analytics credits Qualcomm’s recent design wins, specifically the newest Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Fire HDX for its rise.

“This is quite a dramatic change in position as the company hadn't even made it to the top-five just two quarters ago,” notes Strategy Analytics’ senior analyst Sravan Kundojjala.

“The non-Apple tablet applications processor market leadership continues to be a game of musical chairs and previously we have seen NVIDIA, Samsung and Texas Instruments taking the lead at some time in the past few years.”
