The Mophie juice pack has become the flagship case for those looking to extend their smartphone battery life. Mophie has not forgot about iPads and other tablets as it offers the powerstation line for such portable charging situations.

Logitech announces four new accessories for Apple’s iPad Air

The FabricSkin Keyboard Folio, Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, Ultrathin Keyboard Folio and Folio Protective Case are all designed to fit the iPad Air and are due to launch starting from next month.  The tablet itself is expected to hit U.S. retail stores on November 1.

The Ultrathin Keyboard Folio costs $99 and offers an integrated Bluetooth keyboard, stand and battery (which can last for up to three months). The aluminium Ultrathin Keyboard Cover comes in at the same price but lets users dock the iPad and use the cover as a stand.

The Folio Protective Case is predictably markedly cheaper at $49.99 as it doesn’t come with a keyboard, although it does sport an [...]

Apple could unwrap new keyboard cover for the iPad 5, claims former employee

Jamie Ryan, who used to work in Apple's Developer Relations, claims in his blog that former colleagues have told him about a case for the full-size iPad which “mimics Microsoft’s Touch Cover”.

“I’ve been speaking to a couple of people at Apple for the last few days and they have told me that a case for the full size iPad that mimics Microsoft’s [sic] touch cover has been prototyped,” wrote Ryan.

“It’s not clear whether the process is far enough along to make this Tuesdays [sic] event but they did say a few different styles had been in testing for a while. This would certainly allow Apple to differentiate the [...]

Has Microsoft run out of Surface 2 tablets already?

“Several internal sources” supposedly told tech website Neowin that the Surface 2 64GB, the Surface Pro 2 256GB and Surface Pro 2 512MB are all backordered, as well as the Touch Cover and the Type Cover in purple and black. One other Surface accessory, the new Arc Mouse, is also apparently out of stock.

This is outstanding news for Microsoft, especially as the tablets only went up for pre-order on September 24, but cynics are likely to argue that Microsoft has lightly stocked the channel this time around.

After all, the Redmond company was forced to write-down $900 million on unsold Surface RT tablets in July and outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer even later [...]

FDA announces plans to regulate two broad categories of apps

On Monday, the F.D.A. said its oversight will apply to two broad categories of apps:

Those intended to be used as “an accessory to a regulated medical device” – for example, an app that enables a healthcare provider to diagnose a condition by viewing a medical image from a picture archiving or communication system on a smartphone or tablet; or Apps that “transform a mobile platform into a regulated medical device” – for example, apps that turn smartphones into an electrocardiography (ECG) machine that can detect abnormal heart rhythms or determine if a patient is experiencing a heart attack.

Apps that fall into these two categories [...]
