Is this the final chapter for Barnes & Noble’s Nook tablet?

August 20, 2013

Barnes & Noble revealed today that its core businesses—from brick-and-mortar stores to its Nook e-reader business—are collapsing.

The company posted quarterly revenues of $1.3 billion, down 8.5% from the same period a year ago. It posted a loss of $87 million, almost twice as much as investors expected.

Its Nook e-reader business, which includes hardware and digital content, logged revenues of just $153 million – that's down over 20% from the same period a year ago. Hardware sales were down 23% and content sales were down almost 16%

June 18, 2012

News first broke on a Microsoft-branded Windows 8 tablet late last week, but new information claims that the tablet will be made by Barnes & Noble and will feature Xbox Live streaming capabilities, hinting that this device will primarily be geared up for entertainment purposes.

Hollywood news source The Wrap said last week that the Windows RT tablet will be made by Microsoft itself, but TechCrunch disputes this, and claims – via sources – that Barnes & Noble will make the tablet, presumably as part of its recent deal with Microsoft.

The Redmond software giant invested $300 million in the Nook division at the end of April, a deal which is [...]

Barnes & Noble new ereader is the first to include a built-in glow light

April 14, 2012

B&N says the patent-pending GlowLight in the new Nook Simple Touch allows for a soft, adjustable glow designed to offer just enough light for reading in bed without disturbing a sleeping spouse.

Actually, the GlowLight does double duty as it’s also designed to let Simple Touch users read in bright sunlight when they’re lounging on the beach or other brightly lit locations.

B&N was quick to point out that ereaders like the Kindle, offered by its arch rival Amazon, don’t have a similar feature. “This revolutionary device is the first to combine the most advanced and fastest E Ink display with a precise [...]
