Surprise: Android VP Hugo Barra leaves Google for Chinese smartphone maker

All Things D broke the news of Barra’s departure and suggests that his decision to quit may have been influenced by on-goings in his personal life. The report detailed that Google co-founder Sergey Brin had split with his wife and is now in a relationship with a Google employee, who may have once been in a relationship with Barra (Valley Wag claims to have more details) .

App developers can find the perfect revenue strategy with ADA search tool

While mobile apps do make money for developers and publishers, simply copying the success of companies like Rovio, King, or Bottle Rocket is not efficient, according to app developers like Arfan Chaudhry of Tapgage.

“Many developers stick to one monetization strategy, which is not the way to go,” Chaudhry said. “One monetization strategy may work on one app but its not guaranteed to work on all apps.”

Play ball! iPad is official Little League World Series scorekeeping device

The GameChanger app will be used on a total of 35 separate iPads, letting Little League World Series officials track stats and stream live game updates for nine World Series events and 10 region championship tournaments. Every pitch this summer will be tracked for the nine separate regional and international tournaments across multiple age groups.

For local Little League teams, Game Changer is also available as a free service for both iPad and iPhone as well as Android phones.

Latest iOS 7 beta fixes bugs, adds performance improvements

This latest version includes some general performance improvements and fixes a number of issues from the second beta, including problems with iCloud, AirPlay, and the Messages application.

The mobile operating system's user interface has also been improved with more transparent folders, redesigned music controls, and the calendar which now shows which days you have events on. 

While the iOS 7 is only available to developers, Apple has said it expects to complete its beta testing in time for a fall release to the general public.

Sky Sports iPad app lets soccer fans watch the match from another angle

The update, which also allows viewers to watch action in slow motion from certain camera angles, has come to the Sky Sports iPad app ahead of the European Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, which takes place this Saturday (May 25).

The free app can also be used to peruse player profiles, live match stats and form guides, as well as for betting on matches and remotely recording programs to a Sky personal video recorder (PVR). The new multi-camera feature can be found in the app via the Champions League Events Center.

iPad mini sales not so bad after all

Bloomberg journalist Tim Culpan yesterday quoted Pegatron CEO Jason Cheng as saying that iPad mini revenues had dropped and were “more on demand, while the price has been stable”. His comments were reported by a number of publications, including TabTimes.

One day on from the report and Cheng has come out to accuse Culpan of twisting his words.

Google updates Analytics, now features breakout by Desktop, Tablet and Mobile

Among the changes is a new capability to let you see in real-time which type of computer visitors to a website are using.

The real-time Google Analytics Content report now breaks out by Desktop, Tablet or Mobile the percentage of people visiting your website.

Other changes include a Shortcuts feature that lets you jump directly to see data about a segment of the website’s visitors rather than having to set up a filter each time.

CBS now offers full-episode streaming app for iPad and iPhone

The latest example is CBS which just announced a new CBS App for iPhone and iPad that offers full-episode streaming of the network’s programming from primetime, daytime and late night.

For viewers, CBS said the app will give them more flexibility to catch-up on shows they might have missed at home. For the network, it gives them another way to make money. Daytime and late night programming will be available within 24 hours after initial airing, while most primetime programs will be available on the eighth day after broadcast.
