Through every subsequent generation and changing form factors, the growth and market share of these tablets have continued not only in the US, but across the world, by combining a premium build quality and design with a software experience that is appreciated by many.

iPad 2 owners frustrated by new power-sapping bug on iOS 7.0.3

Sources told TabTimes that their iPad wouldn’t recharge at all since updating to iOS 7.0.3 and this has also been reflected on the Apple forums, where a number of other commentators have voiced their concern.

“Updated to iOS 7.0.3 yesterday [and] now it won't charge,” said user ‘jmuchel’. “I already reset. You would think that Apple would test these things before sending out updates.” Another poster said that they’d regularly encountered this issue – which can apparently be resolved by heading to ‘reset all settings’ — since upgrading to iOS 7

“I have the same issue”, wrote [...]

iPad Air – ‘The lightest full-sized tablet in the world’ joins new iPad mini

The iPad Air weighs only one pound versus the current 4th generation iPad with Retina display at 1.4 pounds. It's also 43% thinner offering what Apple exec Phil Schiller says is a "dramatically different feel" and is more comfortable to hold in one hand.

Schiller also said the new specs position the iPad as the "lightest, full-sized tablet in the world." But while the specs of both the iPad Air were mostly reported earlier in speculative news reports, including the notable inclusion of a 64-bit A7 processor in both the iPad Air and new iPad mini (which also now sports a 2048 x 1536 Retina display), Apple made a number of strategic announcements [...]

Dish bundles Apple’s ‘old’ iPad 2 for new subscribers

Although it has released several new models since the iPad 2 debuted back in March of 2011, Apple still offers the IPad 2 for $399. Apple is expected to release a new iPad model later this month which could mean the iPad 2 will be discontinued and the current iPad with Retina display becomes Apple's lower cost 'value' tablet.

So while a "free" iPad is still a good deal if you're going to get the Dish service anyway, the iPad 2 is very much yesterday's model. Also, several features in Apple's latest software update, iOS 7, aren't available on the iPad 2 including Siri, AirDrop and video sharing via PhotoStream.

Tablets are [...]

Speed up your old iPad’s performance on iOS 7

Reduce space to speed things up

This is an obvious one, but if your iPad is sluggish you may want to look at your available storage. To do so, head to Settings, General and Usage where you should be able to see a breakdown of available and used storage. There will also be a list of how much storage each app occupies.

Delete unwanted apps in the usual fashion but it’s also worth looking at other avenues to get more storage. One very useful solution is the free software PhoneClean, which wipes temporary files from your iPad. When I tested it in February, it saved me over 2GB of data.

(Haven't updated to iOS 7 yet? Read our Top 5 tips for a painless [...]

Apple is now selling refurbished 128GB iPads on the cheap

The deal sees the Wi-Fi only model drop from $799 to $679, and the cellular model fall from $929 to $789. Both models are Apple-certified, are available in black and white and come with a one-year warranty, which acts as some reassurance that these refurbs should last for a while yet.

Apple fixes up refurbished models with a brand new battery and outer shell and the 128GB model is the latest in a long line of repaired iPads selling on the cheap. The Cupertino company already offers refurbished editions of the iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2 and iPad mini, and prices start from as low as $279 for an iPad mini with 16GB of storage.

This news comes as Apple gears up to launch its [...]

Microsoft to iPad users – ‘Trade that thing in for a real tablet’

Say this for Microsoft, it's the only name vendor to go after the best-selling iPad directly with head-to-head comparison ads that claim Surface and other Windows tablets are better.

Now Microsoft is upping the ante with a new trade-in program that gives iPad users a minimum of $200 trade-in credit.

Here's the deal. Microsoft says you can trade in a "gently used iPad 2,3 or 4" at Microsoft stores for a $200 gift card that can be used at the store towards the purchase of a new Surface RT or Surface Pro tablet or other products at the Microsoft Store (it can't be used online).

Microsoft's Surface RT starts at $349. The 64G [...]

iOS 7 is coming to you on September 18

Apple’s head of software Craig Federighi detailed that the OS will be coming to the iPhone 4 and newer versions, the iPad 2 and later as well as the iPad mini and fifth-generation iPod Touch. As TabTimes has already reported, iPad 2 users will only be able to use a handful of iOS 7 features.

The Apple exec briefly showcased iOS 7 running on an iPad at the press conference and claimed that the update will feel “like getting an all-new device”.

“Downloading iOS 7 is like getting an all-new device. One that’s so much more useful and elegant than ever before.”

Nimblstand: Contemporary iPad keyboard dock aimed at business travellers

It’s fair to say that the iPad isn’t exactly short of keyboard docks.
