Good deal: Target to offer $100 gift cards to iPad Air buyers on Black Friday

November 12, 2013

The store is currently selling the 16GB iPad Air with Wi-Fi for $479 – which is already a saving of $20 over Apple’s own price – but has confirmed that Black Friday buyers splashing out on Apple’s latest tablet will also get a $100 store gift card.

This deal isn’t just for iPad Air buyers though; Target promises to give a $75 gift card to iPad mini buyers and $50 and $30 cards to those picking up a fifth-generation iPod Touch or iPhone 5S respectively.

Other notable deals over the Black Friday period from the retailer include a $60 pack of iTunes gift cards for $50 as well as $10 off Apple TV models.

Twitteriffic 5 app gets slick makeover for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

November 11, 2013

The app, which is now on version 5.5.3, now boasts a new layout for user profiles and pull-to-refresh animation, while users should also find that they can swipe up from the image viewer to dismiss photos.

At the same time, developer Iconfactory has made numerous bug fixes and a result the app seems to run a lot faster than it ever has in the past.

Twitterific 5 is a universal app (so you only have to buy it once for it to work across iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad) and costs $2.99 from the App Store. Existing users can download the app update for free.

The Livescribe 3 smartpen launches today with a new design built to work with the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Available for $150, the Livescribe 3 smartpen includes a 50-sheet starter notebook, a micro-USB charging cable, the free Livescribe+ app for iOS7, and one tungsten carbide ballpoint cartridge. The app works with iPhone 4S [...]

October 16, 2013

Previously only available for iPhone and iPod Touch, the company today updated the iOS app (free, iTunes) to bring about support for the iPad.

The news means that iPad users are now able to download the native app and choose from over 100,000 eBook titles and then also read similar books based on related titles and personalized recommendations.

New books are added each week and you can share which books you’ve read via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Other neat features of the app, which is optimized for iOS 7, include the ability to follow friends and sync your activity across all your iOS devices.

There is one rather big catch though in that this [...]

New Yahoo Screen app aims to simplify access to media content

September 9, 2013

Yahoo Screen is designed to act as a mobile home for Yahoo’s own media content and that from its content partners, offering a simple, swipeable interface for browsing through the various programs.

"Heading home, turning the TV on and channel-surfing is something that a lot of us do every day. This daily experience is what we wanted to recreate with our new Yahoo Screen app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch," said Robby Stein, director of product management at Yahoo.

The idea is that Yahoo Screen lets you easily do things like browse through trending clips, search for shows, or jump right in and start watching with a simple flick or tap of your finger. [...]

Tophatter looks to transform auction bidding with fun new iPad app

August 16, 2013

The Tophatter app (free, iTunes) allows users to take part in a virtual auction world where every buyer and seller has an avatar, and where bids can start from as little as $1.00.

Buyers and sellers can gather in virtual rooms to compete on specific products, while the iPad’s larger screen enables folk to browse items, see lists of sales items and even use the chat feature to talk with other buyers and sellers.

Tophatter claims that the iOS app, which debuted on iPhone and iPod Touch some four months ago, has been downloaded more than 400,000 times since launch.

Perch for iOS is a new way for business teams to connect

August 15, 2013

Companies can hang an iPad on the wall in a high-traffic area of an office (or just connect a cheap iPod touch to a larger screen), and whenever Perch’s face-recognition algorithms notice that somebody is standing in front of it, it will un-mute the microphone and let you talk to the team on the other side.

The video is always live. Also, it's worth noting that Perch doesn't see the service a replacement for video-conferencing software, but rather a way to help teams bridge the culture gap between offices and locations.

Perch debuted this week at the Grow conference in Vancouver and is not yet available.

Office for iPad, not yet, Office for iPhone – available now

June 14, 2013

Microsoft Office is now out for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Microsoft Office. Office Mobile for iPhone, now available in App Store, lets you view documents (as had been rumored), but also edit them inside the app as well, which is a bit of a surprise.

But there's a catch. Instead of charging a small fee or an ad supported version of Office for iPhone like many other developers do with their apps, Microsoft will require an Office 365 subscription for Office on iPhone to function.

"And, you can count on Office Mobile to keep all your content and formatting intact so the document still looks great when you're back on your PC or Mac," Microsoft said [...]

Apple receives patent for ‘stunning’ future iPhone with flexible display

March 29, 2013

But Apple appears to be moving closer to delivering the flexible goods. The site Patently Apple spotted a patent approval for flexible displays Apple received from the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

The site calls it “a stunning future iPhone with a wraparound display so that both sides of this iPhone will be able to display content either individually or as one continuous display.”

There is also a good chance this wraparound display technology will also be used in Apple’s much-rumored iWatch.

A flexible iPad?

Meanwhile, The Droid Guy speculates Apple’s flexible display technology could have a broad impact across the [...]
