Lenovo’s new Yoga tablets set a new high for tablet battery life

The Yoga tablets, available in 8-inch and 10.1-inch models, will provide 12 to 14 hours when watching high-definition video, said Lenovo rep Stephen Miller. The tablets can run much longer if the screen is set to lower brightness or if used for less demanding tasks than video. 

Other tablets typically run as long as 11 hours under the best conditions. 

The 8-inch Yoga is priced at $249, while the 10.1-inch model is $299.

BlackBerry has a new potential buyer – Lenovo

The agreement is reportedly similar to one signed by Cerebus Capital Management on Wednesday that the Bloomberg news service reported.  

Fairfax Financial Holdings has the most advanced offer to take BlackBerry private for $4.7 billion. Fairfax already owns 10% of BlackBerry, while the founders own 8%.

Lenovo teases new Yoga tablet with unique kickstand

Detailing the Yoga Tablet on Chinese micro blogging website Weibo recently, Lenovo’s head of China Chen Xudong claimed that the model will be the thinnest tablet on the market and said that it will feature Intel’s Bay Trail CPU and a battery that can last for up to eight hours when in video mode.

But in an intriguing twist, it appears that the tablet could also be fitted with a unique kickstand for improved portability.

Citing unidentified sources, Engadget reports that the tablet will have a unique “leg” that can “stand itself up”, as well as a mechanism to shift the tablet’s center of gravity.

This photo apparently shows Nokia’s 10-inch Windows RT tablet

Well-regarded Windows blogger Paul Thurrott posted what appears to be promotional image on WinSuperSite and detailed that the ‘Sirius’ tablet has a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution IPS display, the quad-core Qualcomm 8974 processor and a battery life of around 10 hours. The slate will however apparently retail for a pricey $499.

Not content with detailing just one product however, Thurrott went onto reveal information on numerous other new Windows 8 tablets – including a successor to Acer’s Iconia W3, Dell’s new Venue tablets, Microsoft’s new Surface slates and Lenovo’s Miix 8.

Sony teases VAIO laptop-tablet combo it’s set to unveil at IFA 2013

The video shows a pair of hands folding and unfolding a piece of paper like you might a traditional laptop, and a hybrid "Viewer" orientation. This is when the laptop's keyboard is folded underneath and faces down on a table, so that the touchscreen 'tablet' display is up and facing outward, similar to Lenovo's IdeaPad Yoga 11S.

Tablets beating laptops in business? Not according to this study

Non-profit organization APQC recently surveyed 336 employees across 15 different industries and came away concluding the laptop be the best mobile computer for work productivity.

Approximately 68% of respondents said that they felt they were more productive when using laptops, with this figure dropping to 38% who said the same for smartphones and just 20% for tablets.

"The results were somewhat surprising in that the tool which has seemingly garnered the most attention over the past year — the tablet — is at this point not viewed as favorably in making people more productive," said Jonathan Kraft, a research program manager for [...]

Lenovo’s latest Windows 8 tablet is now on sale for $600

Announced only at the end of June, the Miix 10 is now listed on the Lenovo website and a run-down on the specs reveals that the tablet has a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 resolution display, a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z2760 CPU, 2GB of LPDDR2 memory, 64GB of eMMC flash storage and a rather measly 1.0MP front-facing camera.

The slate is Wi-Fi-only (3G is optional) does also come with Bluetooth 4.0, a micro SD slot and connections for micro HDMI and USB. The starting price of $599 is not dissimilar to the price of Microsoft's Surface Pro but does include a free detachable keyboard.
