2013 will see rapid growth, evolution of mobile malware, says McAfee

In its annual Threats Predications report for 2013, security vendor McAfee says the development and deployment of increasingly sophisticated “ransomware” technologies that will lock up a mobile phone or tablet, and threaten to keep it that way until a ransom is paid, will be a prominent trend in 2013.

Verizon Wireless teams with Asurion, McAfee on mobile security app for Android smartphones

Available for Android smartphones running Android 2.1 or higher, Verizon Mobile Security combines security capabilities of Asurion and McAfee.  

Among other features, the app gives users the ability to remotely locate, alarm, lock and wipe data from a misplaced or lost Android device.

Verizon Wireless is offering three options starting with a free set of basic security features that's available via the Google Play store:

McAfee’s ‘next generation’ mobile security update protects smartphone & tablet users

The latest release is designed for Google Android-based smartphones and tablets as well as BlackBerry and Symbian smartphones. New features include McAfee App Alert, which McAfee says provides important information about what apps are doing with users’ personal information. Call and SMS filtering block unwanted numbers and spam texts. Behind the app is the McAfee Global Threat Intelligence network, which constantly analyzes global threat data to identify and quickly block new threats with over-the-air app updates, the company said.

McAfee Mobile Security: A quiet and efficient bodyguard for Android tablets

The beauty of the app is its simplicity. The app is clearly laid out and most actions can be sought and started in a few easy steps.

TabTimes found some of the most useful features to be the ability to lock the device, delete or restore contacts (either locally or even from your tablet’s linked email account), back-up data and agree to let the app have administrative rights.
