Logitech wants to make your iPad a fashion statement

The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad is touted as the industry's first tablet keyboard fused directly into the folio's interior fabric. The keyboard has full-size keys and Logitech says both the interior and exterior fabrics of the folio are water resistant.

From a strictly functional view, cheaper iPad keyboard/cover combinations are available, but Logitech says the new accessories are both practical and cool.

“The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio and Logitech Folio give you more than just a protective case for your iPad, they add a distinctive accent to your iPad that reflects your personal style,” says Mike Culver, VP of brand [...]

For $17 a tiny robot will clean your tablet and smartphone

To most, this is not a problem waiting for a high tech solution. A simple wipe with a cloth (or a damp cloth for dirtier screens) usually does the trick.

But gadget freaks who really, really, really want to make sure the screen on their smartphone or tablet is clean might want to check out the Auto Mee S from Japanese vendor Takara Tomy.

Spotted by gadget site Gizmodo (which called it “overkill”) the Auto Mee S is like a mini-version of the Roomba robot vacuum cleaners.

Coming to Japan in March for $17 each, the Auto Mee S will be available in a choice of orange, blue, pink and white colors. It has 2 rotating cleaning papers and 3 tires on its [...]

Struggling to get to sleep? Blame your tablet [report]

The study, carried out by the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, tested how tablets with “backlit” displays can delay sleep.

For the test, 13 people were asked to read, watch movies and play games on tablets for two hours, with LRC then evaluating how this usage affected their melatonin levels. Melatonin is the hormone which helps to regulate sleep.

"Our study shows that a two-hour exposure to light from self-luminous electronic displays can suppress melatonin by about 22%. Stimulating the human circadian system to this level may affect sleep in those using devices prior to bedtime”, said Mariana [...]

Unanimis: ‘Smartphones are used to kill time, tablets are for saving time’

Will King is from Unanimis, a UK-based advertising company which clients include theAA.com, thetrainline.com and Match.com. Unanimis has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Orange since August 2009.

The company provides research data on mobile advertising and King revealed some of the latest statistics when speaking at an Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) event in London late last week.

At present, 41% of the UK market consumes media on a smartphone, versus 7% for tablet, with King claiming that tablets are for older, more affluent people. “This is where you should be looking, as advertisers”, said the Unanimis spokesman.
