Surprise study: Tablet penetration highest in Hong Kong and Singapore

Chinese website Xinhua reports that Ericsson surveyed 47,500 internet users aged between 16 and 60 in 58 countries in Q1 of this year, and found that tablet usage was highest in Hong Kong, where 34% of web users claim to own a tablet PC.

Penetration in Singapore was not exactly bad either at 31% with the research firm believing that tablet adoption in the country will incredibly almost double to 60% of web users by the end of 2012.

Italian airline deploys Xoom 2 for in-flight entertainment, customer service

Motorola says that the 10.1-inch tablet will offer in-flight entertainment to Business and 'Magnifica' class passengers on select mid to long-distance flights, with this entertainment consisting of pre-loaded movies, music, magazines and games.

In particular, staff will be able to use the tablets to check a customer's preference for seating or food, or to just peruse their travel history.

This is by no means the first time an airline has taken the move to introduce tablets, as recent [...]

RIM forced to drop BBX brand name

RIM has chosen BlackBerry Ten to brand its new operating system, rather than engage in a prolonged court battle over the BBX name it had planned to use. While the latest version of the OS is “7”, the company says the “10” brand connotes the significance of the upgrade which combines both legacy BlackBerry software and the newer QNX software it acquired and refined for use in the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

RIM announced the BBX name in San Francisco at its developer conference in October shortly thereafter software developer Basis International said it held the BBx trademark and took RIM to court.

Although RIM [...]
