According to AMD, Project Discovery will “show the world what we can do in the tablet space,” which means it might be more of a concept device to give its hardware partners a head start on designing new AMD-powered tablets.
Project Discovery is expected to be a Windows 8 tablet with optional accessories such as a docking station and a game controller that adds physical buttons and hand grips to the sides of the tablet,
The tablet, which was announced at IFA back in September, offers an 8-inch 1280 x 800 resolution IPS display, runs Windows 8.1 and comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office 2013 Home & Student. It also boasts an Intel Atom Z3740 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
In addition, buyers will find dual-facing cameras (8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera), dual microphones and connections for micro HDMI, micro USB and an micro SD card.
The semi-functional Surface tablet is roughly 383-inches in size and has been installed in London’s Trafalgar Square, next to the iconic Nelson’s Column.
Although primarily designed as a publicity stunt, the device is usable as it is connected to a real Surface 2. Indeed, passers-by can even stand on the keys from the mock-up Type Cover 2 to tweet on Twitter using the Windows 8 app.

Microsoft responded to the speculation by telling AllThingsD that this is not the case. “The suggestion that all Windows 8 apps run on Xbox One is not accurate,” the company said in an email.
