App developer Branchfire decided to discount the app from $9.99 to $1.99 for one day after some 1500 Twitter users adopted the #freeiAnnotate hash tag in hope of driving down fees for back-to-school users.

The discount is actually going to be available for a bit longer than a day. To accomodate all time zones it runs from 9 p.m. EDT tonight (Sept. 11) through 1 p.m. EDT on Friday September 13. Per usual, the app is available for download from the App Store or from Branchfire’s website.

At the same time, Branchfire announced that the sale coincides with a new update for iAnnotate (iTunes), taking the app to version 2.7.

The app – which won “best productivity app” and “best collaboration app” at last year’s Tabby Awards — retains its core functionality of letting users read, mark and share documents on tablets, but adds handy new features like a wrist guard for resting your hands while typing, and the ability to re-order pages in PDFs.
