Time to forget Office for iPad? Apple reportedly improving iWork apps

May 16, 2013

The iWork suite is available on Mac and iPad and comprises a number of Office-like applications, with “Pages” for word processing, “Numbers” for spreadsheets and “Keynote” for presentations.

All three apps have had relatively minor upgrades since the launch of the original iPad back in 2009 but could now get a new lease of life if a new report is to be believed.

MacRumors claims that Apple has been hiring staff for the iWork team since February and in all positions from senior software engineers to quality assurance engineers, with the job listing for the latter informing would-be employees that they will work on “the next generation of Desktop, Mobile and Web applications/services”.

In contrast, there is no telling when Microsoft will bring Office for the iPad. The most reliable recent report on the matter came from ZDNet writer Mary-Jo Foley, who claimed to have seen a leaked roadmap hinting at a launch next fall.
