Vitreo, a tempered glass screen protector for the latest 3rd and 4th generation iPad as well as the iPad 2 is designed to protect the device from “extreme drops,” scratches and fingerprints.
Seidio, the company that makes the screen protector, says the Vitreo’s high-grade tempered glass has a 9H hardness rating which prevents damage from drops and scratches and also absorbs any impact.
Additionally, the oleophobic coating is resistant to the kinds of marks and smudges iPad owner typically encounter with regular use.
“Vitreo offers extreme protection. It won’t shatter, crack or bubble,” says David Chang, CEO of Seidio. “We [Seidio] put this shield through rigorous testing in order to ensure the safety of our consumer’s devices.”
At $69.95, Vitreo is far more expensive than plastic screen shields, but the company says it provides far more protection and won’t bubble or lift like some of those products will sometimes do.
Vitreo attaches to the iPad screen with a silicone adhesive and installs by simply pushing down on the center while it slowly adheres outward to the edges. The protector adds a mere .55mm in thickness to the iPad and the company claims it enhances the visual appearance and clarity of the screen.
