It looks like Microsoft will get in just under the wire to deliver the Consumer Preview of Windows 8. Microsoft had said it expected to deliver the preview release by the end of February and the two hour event, according to ZDNet, is slated for Wednesday, February 29.
A developer preview of Windows 8 was released last September and a number of companies have shown prototype tablets running that beta release that’s received generally good reviews.
The final, finished release of Windows 8 is due out this fall and Microsoft has a lot riding on its success. Although its hardware partners like HP already offer tablets running Window 7, Windows 8 devices are considered to be a truer challenge to the hot-selling iPad and the array of Android-based tablets holding down second place in the market.
