Announcing its financial results for the second quarter, the firm confirmed that it hit a net profit of $220 million and said that revenue was also up by 13% year-on-year to $9.8 billion.
What is clear is that smartphones and tablets played a significant role in the result, as Lenovo’s mobile device sales more than doubled compared to a year ago.
Breaking down the number some more, the company detailed that smartphone shipments rocketed up 78% year-on-year in the three months to the end of September and said that tablet shipments rose more than four-fold to 2.3 million units.
"Lenovo not only remains the top PC company in the world, but is also already the number four player in both smartphones and tablets worldwide and continues growing rapidly," said Lenovo chief executive Yang Yuanqing in a statement.
Research firms recently pegged Lenovo as the world’s largest PC maker, but – as a sign of the form factor’s decline, the company itself insisted that it is now selling more smartphones and tablets than PCs.
